When news broke last night that the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle was expecting her first baby with Prince Harry, the world appeared to embrace the feel-good news with gusto.

In the UK, Kensington Palace said the couple, who got married in a televised ceremony five months ago, were "delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public".

As the happy pair travelled around Australia, those on Twitter were busy sharing their hot (and cold) takes on the unborn baby set to become seventh in line to the British throne.

Some wondered where Meghan found the time to get pregnant...

Other eagle-eyed spectators hadn't been surprised by the news...

There was lots of collective cooing over how good the couple is with children.

And lots of huddling together, staring at phones...

Some wondered how newlywed Princess Eugenie was taking the news...

Then there were those who pondered possible world domination...

Speculation regarding the baby's Christening brought back some fond memories...

Some reflected fondly on Meghan's days presenting on Deal or No Deal...

Journalists fought for their right to wholesome content...

Others used the announcement to remind social media users of some harsh realities...

Then there were those who questioned the pair's timing...

And, well, ugg boots were inevitably involved.
