Lady Gaga stunned fans this morning with a stirring rendition of the US National Anthem, performing at the inauguration of Joe Biden alongside a lineup of artists including Jennifer Lopez, Garth Brooks, and 22-year-old poet Amanda Gorman.
But it was the Oscar-winner's choice of outfit and accessories that had social media users talking.
The 34-year-old, who has been , wore a floor-length custom Schiaparelli red gown, black top, leather gloves, and a gold dove brooch to symbolise peace, which viewers were quick to point out resembled the Mockingjay pin worn by Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games movie franchise.
"We’re missing one of our mockingjay pins, has anybody seen it?" Tweeted the official Hunger Games Twitter account.
"Lady Gaga looking like she ab[out] to announce who will be in the next Hunger Games," one viewer wrote, comparing the star to one of the franchise's more eccentric characters, Effie Trinket.
Outfit aside, fans of the singer appreciated the symbolic nature of her performance.
"Here is a picture of Lady Gaga taking a golden microphone, as Mike Pence looks on, so she can sing the national anthem at the inauguration of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr." One wrote.
"This is how the Trump era ends."
Taking to social media following her performance, Gaga tweeted: "A dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make peace with each other."
She added: "My intention is to acknowledge our past, be healing for our present, and passionate for a future where we work together lovingly. I will sing to the hearts of all people who live on this land."
