"I want to take a second to say that black lives matter, trans lives matter, and if we're going to celebrate Pride, we need to keep that message three-sixty-five."

When singer and rapper Lizzo took to the stage at Sacramento Pride over the weekend, she did so understanding too well how important her role as a prominent LGBTIQ+ ally is.

Taking to social media following the performance, the artist, who recently released her debut album Cuz I Love You, shared a video clip showing part of a speech she made on stage.

"Just your daily reminder that black trans women need to be protected & prioritised," she captioned the clip.

"We ain’t free till we ALL free. Thank you for choosing me, I don’t take my allyship lightly."
In the video, which has had close to 500,000 views, Lizzo commands the audience's attention with her message.

"I want to take a second to say that black lives matter, trans lives matter, and if we're going to celebrate Pride, we need to keep that message three-sixty-five," she shouts.

"I want you to carry that pride everywhere that you go, no matter what uniform that you're in - you carry that pride and that love for this community."

She continued: "Your hospital scrubs, your police uniform, your firefighting uniform - no matter what uniform you're wearing, you're protecting queer, black, brown, trans people."

*Wipes away tear*

Now that's how you do allyship.
