Nike makes a splash with new swimwear line that includes a hijab

Nike has revealed its first-ever hijab swimsuit, offering full-body coverage and a head cover.

"The design of the Nike Victory Swim Collection serves a variety of needs from modesty preferences to sun protection and represents Nike's commitment to inclusive design, providing more women with game-changing innovation to enjoy sport," the company said in a statement.

Set to be made available in February 2020 in the UK, US and the Middle East,  reports that the collection has been designed to be lightweight, breathable and fast-drying - with UPF40+ sun protection.

Martha Moore, Nike Creative Director, VP, said the sportswear brand was "excited to inspire more women to see themselves in sport by thinking creatively and designing inclusively."

She added: "To us, Nike Victory Swim Collection shows the power of innovation to invite all women to discover the joy of sport."
Ice-skater and Nike ambassador Zahra Lari to celebrate the release, saying she was "extremely proud" to have been involved in the campaign.

"I’ve been waiting a long time to share this with all of you and I'm extremely proud to be part of this," the five time United Arab Emirates champion wrote.

"As you all know I’m OBSESSED with water! The Nike Victory Swimsuit is a dream suit. It is extremely light, water just falls off of it, and of course very stylish. It is definitely one of a kind."

She added: "Thank you Nike for supporting us women and allowing us to do what we love is a modest way."

The Victory Swim collection follows , designed to allow athletes to observe the traditional Islamic practice of covering the head without compromising performance.
