LA Galaxy player Robbie Rogers is the new face of a Target advertising campaign in the US,

The soccer star features in the retail chain’s new TV commercial to promote the Goodfellow and Co. clothing line, which premiered this week.

“Had so much fun a few weeks ago filming with ," Rogers wrote on Instagram.

“I’m really excited to be partnering with them to launch their all-new brand #Goodfellow. Lucky enough to have explored the line and I'll be sharing some of my favourites over the next few weeks.”
Target has been praised for choosing to feature the openly gay sportsman for the campaign.

“We’re thankful to Target for featuring an out gay man — with a fiancé and baby — in their campaign, and we continue to be grateful to Rogers for his willingness to be a voice and a face for LGBT equality,” Outsports wrote of the advertisement.

Twitter users are equally excited about seeing Rogers model the new clothing line.

It’s not the first time that Target has stood up for LGBT+ equality and representation—the retailer has implemented a transgender-inclusive policy for its store bathrooms and has previously launched a #TakePride clothing range.

The rainbow coloured clothes and accessories incensed The American Family Association (AFA) with the group of the company.

“Target [has an] all out love affair with the LGBTQ," the group said in a statement. "For the past two years, Target stores have entire sections dedicated to products normalising homosexuality."
