As Pride Month celebrations come to an end in the United States—one of the country’s most beloved childhood institutions has posted a message of support for the LGBT+ community online.

This week, the official Sesame Street Twitter account uploaded a glorious rainbow flag of Muppets—including Elmo—with the caption: “Sesame Street is proud to support families of all shapes, sizes and colours.”
The tweet has received an outpouring of love from Sesame Street fans and the LGBT+ community, who have been praising the fact that the children’s TV show has always been a champion of diversity.

The message has also received some pretty homophobic comments, with accusing Sesame Street of abandoning “any notion of childhood innocence”.

Lifesite said the image was a “clear tribute to the ‘Gay Pride’ rainbow flag” and condemned the iconic TV show for encouraging kids to “take sides in a political war”.

The piece goes on to note the program's solidarity with organisations such as the Human Rights Campaign, before concluding that the program is “overtly gay”.

Just one more reason for audiences to love Sesame Street, tbh.
