In a sign of acceptance and celebration, students at Barnstable High in Massachusetts have voted trans teen Nick Bulman as Prom King.

Attending the 'Great Gatsby' themed prom night, seniors at the public high school voted between five male students for the title, with Bulman coming out on top.

According to , Bulman, who came out as trans last year, said: "Eighth grade me would have never thought I would be here. Especially in a tux."

He continued: "It just feels like a weight’s off my shoulders like I can be more free and open with all those around me and I’m happy with myself."
"It’s been like a really nice surprise and kind of a great acknowledgment from my peers and my community."

Bulman's class adviser Lyn Vazquez called the student "an all-around great person," adding that "teachers at Barnstable High School felt Nick was a great candidate."

Nick's mother, Jaime Gallagher said that the acknowledgement from her son's peers meant a lot.

"I love the fact that Barnstable High School validated and acknowledged Nick in that way," she told CBS.
