The dress used the colours of the Eritrean flag, where Haddish's late father, Tsihaye Reda Haddish, was born.

Actress Tiffany Haddish has wowed onlookers on the red carpet of the 2018 Emmy Awards, wearing a free-flowing Prabal Gurung custom-made gown.

But, as eagle-eyed fashion commentators were quick to point out, there was a hidden meaning behind the choice of primary colours used in the dress.
The dress draws on the colours of the Eritrean flag, where Haddish's late father, Tsihaye Reda Haddish, was born.

It's not the first time the Girls Trip star has honoured her heritage through fashion, wearing a traditional gown to the Oscars earlier this year.

“My father is from Eritrea and he passed away last year, and he said I’d end up here," Haddish .

"And if I ever end up at the, [he said] to honour my people. So, I’m honouring my fellow Eritreans.”
