The much-loved Tiwi Island Sistergirl community has been cemented into the Darwin landscape.

Created by artist Kaff-eine for the Darwin Street Art Festival, the large mural depicts local star Shaniquá TiwiSista and coincides with this weekend's Darwin Pride parade.

"I’m so proud and I feel very privileged to be on this wall," TiwiSista wrote in a post on Facebook.

"I’m not representing myself but all the other girls, my fellow Tiwi sistergirls... this [is] for you mob," she added.
TiwiSista said the artwork was "historic" and represented the groundbreaking acceptance of her community.

"This is a incredible and a historical piece to celebrate our achievements to acceptance and respect in being ourselves," she shared.

"Tiwi island is leading the way to show that acceptance and love is important to the LGBTIQ+ community."

TiwiSista previously competed in Darwin's inaugural Miss First Nations pageant, in which she placed first runner-up, and has appeared on screen as part of the documentary Black Divaz.
