Role-playing video game Mass Effect: Andromeda has included a range of gay storylines in the latest installation of the hugely popular series.

Protagonist Scott Ryder—who awakens in the Andomeda Galaxy in 2819—has the option of engineer Gil Brodie or smuggler Reyes Vidal as potential partners in the game.

Gamers who choose to play as Scott’s twin sister Sara Ryder have the option of pursuing lesbian relationsips with science officer Suvi, journalist Keri T’Vessa or alien Peebee.

However, some Mass Effect players have expressed their disappointment with developer Bioware for not making the same-sex storylines as realistic as the heterosexual romances, according to

“I'm actually disappointed, you can tell not one queer man had anything to do with this romance because it's very... I don't know, nothing magical or speaks to me at all,” said one user on .

“Gay romance options are so generic... this game is a disappointment =/” said another.

Bioware’s Ian S. Frazier responded to a fan on Twitter saying: “We take the concerns very, very seriously.”
Developer Bioware first introduced limited male/male romance options in Mass Effect 3.

The series has gained a huge following since it was first released in 2007 with an estimated 13 million copies of the game sold worldwide.
