Here's why can’t we let go of the 80s

On this week’s episode of 'The Playlist' podcast, Nick and Fiona talk about nostalgia’s stranglehold on entertainment.

Stranger Things, Donald F Trump, , reboot (MacGyver, Lethal Weapon, Ghostbusters) after depressing reboot (Fuller House)... it's become apparent that we as a culture are determined to relive the 80s no matter the cost.

Pretty soon we’ll be smoking on aeroplanes, murdering each other for Cabbage Patch Kids dolls and invading the Falklands.

But for SBS Guide editor Nick Bhasin, the decade was more about being a chubby brown kid in extremely tight clothing in white suburbia trying to listen to the Fat Boys. SBS Movies editor Fiona Williams isn’t eager to go back to that period of her life either.

Nevertheless, the brave co-hosts try to get to the bottom of why we’re still so enamored with this era.

They also talk about 80s TV show theme songs and what it’s like to watch The Cosby Show now (spoiler: it’s deeply uncomfortable).
