Never ever get drunk with Richard Ayoade

Chances are he’ll force you to go zorbing the morning after a bender.

Travel Man: 48 Hours In Valencia

Valencia isn’t a city you hear about that often, but it’s the location for one of the best episodes of Travel Man yet. Accompanied by comedian Sara Pascoe, Richard Ayoade takes viewers to the Spanish home of citrus fruit and paella.

What starts off as a pretty standard instalment of the travel series takes a turn for the bizarre as Ayoade and Pascoe receive a lesson in traditional paella making. Later, as they eat the fruits (or rather, meat, veges and rice) of their labour, they discuss a traditional British delicacy: flavoured kettle chips. Odd but hilarious, which is also an apt description of the rapid onset of drunkenness that follows when they then head out for a potent cocktail.

Naturally, the best thing to do the day after gorging yourself on food and alcohol is to climb inside an inflatable ball and roll around on the surface of a large pool at Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences. While Ayoade takes it easy inside the zorb, Pascoe does anything but. At the end of their exhausting second day, there’s only one thing for it: another cocktail.
