Australia's avid armchair critics, the stars of Gogglebox, tune into SBS Australia this week, to check out the premiere episode of our nautical noir series, Safe Harbour.

The drama centres around a group of friends on a sailing holiday, who encounter a boat of asylum seekers in distress. They are compelled to act, and take the decision to tow the boat to land, but overnight the tow rope is cut and by morning the troubled vessel is nowhere to be seen.

The four-part series poses provocative questions about human behaviour, and leaves viewers contemplating what they might do in a similar situation. The lounge rooms of Gogglebox were hooked on the premise from the outset, and everyone from Adam & Symon to The Delpechitas, The Silberys, The Daltons, Wayne & Tom, and Matty, Sarah Marie and Jad, were left questioning:

  1. How they would act. (Angie asks, “What would you do if you’re out in your sailing boat, because you’re fancy as f*ck, and you see a boat. What would you do?”)

  2. Who cut the rope? They have theories. A lot of theories.

  3. The design of sailboats. Okay, that’s really just Tom, whose partner Wayne shoots that down pretty quickly to get the focus back on the high seas drama unfolding on screen.  (Thanks, Wayne.)

See what all the fuss is about by streaming episodes 1 and 2 of Safe Harbour at SBS Demand now, and catch the gripping new episodes 8.30pm Wednesdays on SBS Australia.
