'The Good Fight' makes a very entertaining (and very surreal) return with season 3

There are moments in season three of The Good Fight where you might find yourself thinking that you’ve stumbled on a completely different show. Even though fans are used to this show being “really wacky and broad”, creators Robert and Michelle King have found new and wonderful ways to surprise viewers from the first episode.

Nick and Fiona, co-hosts of The Playlist podcast, are definitely fans, finding The Good Fight “tremendously entertaining” and displaying “wit and self-awareness” via its true-to-life characters.

Having so much material to work with – namely, the real-life drama of the US political climate and the #MeToo movement – writers have given lawyer Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranksi) and the whole cast plenty of good fights and momentous challenges to get stuck into this season.

Fiona’s tip is to watch out for the stand-out performance of Audra McDonald as Liz Reddick-Lawrence.

Also in episode 91 of The Playlist:

  • Nick and Fiona look back at Ang Lee’s 1997 film, The Ice Storm, now streaming at SBS On Demand. A who’s who cast of its time - Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Katie Holmes, Tobey Maguire and Christina Ricci play a bunch of middle-class folks navigating complicated relationships and experimenting with sex and drugs in 1973 Connecticut.
  • Nick’s been watching the final season of Veep and Fiona’s indulging in Schitt’s Creek.
