The New Pope is coming and we've got two words for you: John. Malkovich.

It appears this follow-up to The Young Pope will see Jude Law reprise his role as Lenny Belardo/Pope Pius XIII, the first ever American pope. It was initially announced that Law would play in this series, however, the image of the two actors tells a different story.
Like its predecessor, The New Pope is written by Oscar-winning director Paolo Sorrentino (The Great BeautyLoro), alongside Umberto Contarello and Stefano Bises. Sorrentino will direct all eight episodes.

Confirmed to return from The Young Pope are Silvio Orlando (Cardinal Voiello), Javier Cámara (Cardinal Gutierrez), Cécile de France (Sofia), Ludivine Sagnier (Esther) and Maurizio Lombardi (Cardinal Mario Assente). There’s no word on whether Diane Keaton’s Sister Mary will be back.

With all this mystery, we can’t wait to see it when it arrives on SBS later this year! Let us pray it's not too long a wait.

In the meantime, the full series of The Young Pope is available at SBS On Demand:
