This week in It's my desi life, we bring you the story of , an international student and an aspiring musician in Australia.
Uday is an aspiring musician from Pehowa in Kurukshetra district, Haryana, India.
He came to Australia two years ago, with a bagful of dreams to further his music career, but he did not know that there will be a long struggle to achieve that.
Back home in India, he had watched on TV, many of the established and upcoming Hindi and Punjabi music stars were from Canada and Australia… and thus felt that someday he will also get a chance to launch his own music album.
His dream to pursue a course in music faced a setback as the music courses were very expensive.

He then decided to join Hospitality Management. He thought he would somehow find a way to a successful career in music.
Soon the student life struggles led him to work as a car wash person and later as a kitchen hand.
Uday does not regret taking up these jobs, which he would have never ever thought of back in India.
Uday says, “In India it use to feel as if it was very easy here! It was like a dream world for me... but when I came here things were different, there was no easy way out, no short cuts… all I could see was a long route of struggle, which I happily accepted as a challenge.”
Uday found few local Indian musicians with whom he started collaborating as a guitarist. Even though he wanted to be the lead vocalist, he took whatever gig he was offered. In one event, the lead singer had some issues, and he asked Uday to step in for him.

For Uday this was a golden opportunity, he sang his heart out, which people appreciated and one of the local entertainment and music artist manager offered to help him and started getting him shows on a regular basis in the Indian community events.
Initially Uday had to perform on a goodwill basis, without any pay, which he was alright with. He says, “to gain something, one must be ready to give something… for me it was to be able to showcase my talent… once people got to know my talent, they would get back to me… and that started happening for me.”

Soon he started getting invites to perform in various community events, clubs and restaurants.
He also started doing opening musical performances for many Bollywood celebrity shows and events and is now well known in the Indian community for his music talent.
Uday enjoys creating his own music and is working on his original music album. He finds creating and mixing music on his own much more satisfying… he does not like getting his music done by someone else.

Recently, he did a music video on a cover song ‘Akhiyaan’, with some local filmmakers.
He aims to produce a music video on his original music by the end of 2017.
Uday is yet to achieve his goal, but is on his way.... and is doing all that he can… he says: I am at a crossroads - one is of my passion - music, another - the jobs that I do to survive... Once, I start moving in my chosen path of music properly...only then I will consider myself as a successful person!
