An Uber driver has been charged with assaulting a Sydney woman while taking her home.

A 26-year-old woman ordered the ride-sharing service shortly after 11pm on Saturday and on the way home, the driver pulled the car over in Carlingford, in Sydney's northwest, and sexually assaulted her, police allege.

The woman reported the matter and a 30-year-old man was arrested and later charged with sexual assault and indecent assault.

He has been refused bail to appear in court on Tuesday.
