The history of Chinese people’s contact with Australia goes back a long time. In the 19th century Chinese migrants joined people from places like Indonesia and the Philippines to work in pearling in Broome. What is the rest of the story?


Udaya Halim is the founder of the Benteng Heritage Museum and founder of PERTIWI.  He describes to Sri Dean the history of the Chinese in Broome and explains their importance in Australian life and culture.
