Vehicles stolen during home invasion in Melbourne

Police have been told that three other vehicles were seen speeding away from the home after the burglary.

A 30-year-old man was injured after he tried desperately to stop car thieves from making away with his ute during a home invasion in Melbourne.

Kardy Murugathus, his partner Anne and their one-year-old son were asleep in their Clyde North home when thieves broke into their home at 1:30 am on Wednesday.

Woken up due to the sound of engines, 27-year-old Anne went outside to investigate and the family’s red BMW sedan and black 2012 VW Amarok utility being reversed out of their driveway.

Police believe the keys to both the vehicles were stolen from inside the house while the family was asleep.

Kardy told 9 News that the robbers also took away $2000 cash,Anne's passport and medicines from the pantry.

He said he saw his ute reversing out of their driveway and tried to stop the robbers in their tracks.

“I jumped on the back of the ute at the same time they put the accelerator on,” Kardy told.

He suffered injuries to his leg as he fell down during his bid to stop the thieves from making away with his ute.

Police believe the home invasion on Wednesday morning was “well planned”.

The alleged offenders were captured on CCTV arriving in three separate cars, including a silver Holden ute.

The BMW was later found dumped in Dandenong North on Thursday night. The ute is still missing.
