When Lil Nas X came out earlier this month, he hoped that in doing so he would help others like him find the strength to do the same.

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, the 20-year-old 'Old Town Road' singer reflected on the he shared at the conclusion of World Pride Month, saying: “I kind of revealed, you know… that I am gay."

The star admitted that he once considered never coming out out, saying: “It was something I was considering just never doing ever, just taking to the grave or something, but I don’t want to live my entire life not doing what I want to do."

He added: “I’m also opening doors for more people. [I hope] that they feel more comfortable.”
The singer explained that he wanted to help shift the culture within certain communities, explaining that homosexuality is "not really accepted" in the "country and hip-hop communities."

While a majority of fans have been accepting of his announcement, Lil Nas X said he understood there would be a level of backlash - but didn't blame those serving him hate.

“I’m already getting it! Learning the internet over the past couple years, I used to be that person being negative.

“I’m not angry or anything, because I understand they want that reaction. I’m just going to joke back with them.”
