A allegedly showing a same-sex wedding ceremony that took place in Saudi Arabia has set off an investigation into the events, with authorities revealing that many involved have been arrested.

According to , Saudi officials have confirmed that they are carrying out an "investigation" into the video, determining the authenticity and repercussions of those involved.
Famously not recognising LGBTI+ rights in Saudi Arabia, the country has been rocked by scandal, as clips of the celebration have circulated on social media. Some see the event as a mark of a new Saudi, while others are using it as an opportunity to spread homophobic sentiment.

"In the purest spot on earth... Two homosexuals marry in Saudi Arabia," The New Arab reported of one Tweet, while others blamed foreign influences for the spread of homosexuality.
The video features two men in thobes, traditional Saudi garments, walking down an aisle as they are showered with confetti.

According to , the wedding took place near the holy site of Mecca, which caused many to criticise the event.

The ultra-conservative kingdom punishes homosexual activity with a range of consequences including fines, floggings, imprisonment, and even death. While the video's authenticity has yet to be determined, with some circulating that it was a "prank", those involved have been arrested and will undergo investigation prior to being referred to the public prosecutor.
